Admissions

Rosebay Schools operates an inclusion and equality policy and ensure that all children have access to the school’s spaces and services irrespective of their gender, race, disability, religion or belief of parent/carer(s).

The school adopts an assessment of pupils prior to admission into some classes in order to decide on the appropriate learning or behavioural support for each child.

Early Years Foundation Stage (Playclass, Playgroup, Nursery and Reception)

Admission into the Playclass and Playgroup is strictly by age.
For admission into the Nursery and Reception classes, admissions is based on response to communication and language, PSED (Physical, social, emotional development) and mathematical development. Specific questions based on the aforementioned areas are asked and a report is generated.

Pupils are invited for tester days upon satisfactory performance.

Children must be potty trained prior to enrolment into the Nursery and Reception classes.

The school may also require further educational or psychological evaluations if a need is observed or communicated during the assessment process. The purpose of such an evaluation will be to obtain further information to support individual learners.

Elementary (Year 1 - 6)

Admission into the Elementary school is based on an assessment of the applicant’s ability.

This is evaluated through an assessment process which involves a written entrance assessment in English and Mathematics, and an interview with the parent/carer(s).

Where applicants are unable to attend physically, an online assessment is set for them.

We evaluate their performance and make a judgement if we can meet the needs of the child.

The school may also require further educational or psychological evaluations if a need is observed or communicated during the assessment process. The purpose of such an evaluation will be to obtain further information to support individual learners.

The pupil’s past academic records, where relevant, are also required.

Matters considered in offering of spaces to children

  • Availability of places, considering the staff/child ratios, the age of the child and the registration requirements.
  • Children who have siblings who are already with us.
  • When the application is received (extra weight is given to those who have been on the waiting list the longest).
  • Rosebay Schools’ ability to provide the facilities for the welfare of the child, including appropriate staffing arrangements.
  • A child requiring a full-time place may have preference over one requiring a part-time place. This is dependent upon work commitments, occupancy and room availability.
  • Extenuating circumstances affecting the child’s welfare or the welfare of his/her family..

Prior to issuing an admission letter, parent/carer(s) must complete and sign a contract and registration form.

These forms provide the school with personal details relating to the child. For example, name, date of birth, address, emergency contact details, parental responsibilities, dietary requirements, collection arrangements, fees and sessions, contact details for parent/carer(s), doctor’s contact details, health visitor contact details, allergies, parental consent and vaccinations etc.

After meeting all the requirements, a provisional letter of admission is issued.
